Hotter than a pepper sprout, hotter than a $2 pistol, hotter than Satan’s house cat…Man, it’s hot! But
they came anyway, they came from across the city and half the country. It was Rotary time in downtown
Austin! The room was a buzz and I got the last seat.

President Julia called the meeting to order and was firing on all cylinders, the audio and visual was on the ball.

Peter Pfeiffer led the pledges and Past President Don Ray George gave our invocation of the day. Tillery Castillo led us in saying the Four Way Test.

President Elect Bill Davies greeted each member and guest as they arrived and Carl Noble introduced our guests and visitors. What great job he does, names are hard! There were at least nine guests and visitors and one an Army Cpt.

President Julia introduced Jessica Diaz as our newest Club member. Her sponsor is Past President Harold Ingersoll. Good leadership Harold. Welcome, Jessica!

Well, Bobby Brown’s wine tasting is upon us and if we don’t fill his “dam” house that over looks the
Mansfield Dam then you will never hear the World War II era story of how the dam was built. He
promises each of us a cd of his musical favorites if you need it for the trip home. By the time you read
this you will have already been there!

We had time today for the Thank Goodness Basket, and what a lot of good there was. We heard from
several members including: Jon Yates about his grandmother and her generation, Lois Ann Stanton
offered a public service announcement about the surgery risk of handling avocado’s, Ronney Reynolds
spoke about his greatest generation hero and friend, Mary Bird Bowman and 90 years of a Rotary family
history milestone and Michael Portman’s 114-mile bike trip. A lot of goodness to report today!

As is getting routine these days, we had time for ten minutes of fellowship. Got to love a well-run agenda!

The speaker today was introduced by Don Ray George. Dr. Judith Wolf is a board certified Gynecologic Oncologist with more than 30 years of experience. She is a physician specializing in the care of women with cancer. Her area of expertise is ovarian cancer diagnosis, research treatment and advocacy. She has co-authored 94 peer-reviewed research articles and was the principal investigator or co-investigator for 11 research grants related to gynecologic cancers.

Speakers at Rotary are always top notch, and today was no different. See you next week and hear all about EarlyAct FirstKnight (EAFK) from it’s founder, Randall Parr!
