John Williams, Untold Story of the LCRA

President Dale called the 6 September meeting to order.

Don Grillo led the pledges and Don Busby gave the invocation. Arnold Garcia led us in saying The Four Way Test. Myron Burse greeted each member and guest as they arrived and Grant Glauser introduced the guests and visitors.

Perfect Attendance Awards

President Elect Sara Pantin and Liz Ingersoll presented the Perfect Attendance awards and certificates for last year (2015-2016). John Braziel and Dale Lowe tied for top honors with 38 years of Perfect Attendance. President Dale then recognized some of our members who have been part of the Club for many years, andPast President Bill Milstead was the champion since he’s been a member of our Club for over 63 years! Congratulations, everyone!

Events and Announcements

Bill Davies reminded us of the big membership soiree and wine tasting on 23 September. Bring a bottle of wine and a prospective member to the party at The Austonian. Mark Kapner gave a Global Awareness Update on the Visionaria Peru project for girls in Peru. The project is
a joint project between clubs in Colorado and Peru.

Michael Portman reminded members that the cost of a Paul Harris fellowship is only $333 until the end of September. President Dale really would like to have 100% Paul Harris Fellows in our Club. Please consider this great deal if you haven’t gotten your first Paul Harris Fellowship yet!

We had a lengthy Thank Goodness Basket and heard from:
Ande Rasmussen, Ellen Hunt, Lee Yeakel (who also donated an extra $50…$1 for every year he and Anne have been married), Mark Johnson, Adrian Moore, Julie Benkoski, Ronney Reynolds, Bill Baker and Dale Lowe.

Speaker John Williams

Mike O’Krent introduced our speaker, John Williams presenting on the Untold Story of the LCRA (Lower
Colorado River Authority). John told us that the LCRA was created by the Texas legislature in 1934 to make the Colorado River valley
more productive. The agency focuses on flood control, power generation and recreation. There are six dams controlled by the LCRA in the Highland Lakes chain. John also mentioned that his next book will be on the history of Texas broadcasting.

Our next program will be a presentation by Diana Dukes with Capital Area Crime Stoppers. President Dale adjourned the meeting.
