August 2009 Operation Vacation
The Rotary Club of Austin and Killeen sponsored their 21st Ft. Hood family in Austin last weekend through Operation Vacation. The family was hosted by our own Rotarian member, Tom Schurr, General Manager of the Radisson Hotel downtown with a free weekend stay. Mary Reynolds greeted the family upon their arrival on Friday and presented them with a gift bag full of coupons, gift cards, toys, snacks and souvenirs. Our own Jerry Ray provides bowling for each family. They were treated to bat watching and complimentary dinner on Friday night by the Radisson's TGI Fridays restaurant and to BBQ at the County Line on Saturday. The soldier and his family had a great time in Austin and enjoyed their quality time together. Oscar Rosa was so thankful that Austin appreciates what they are doing in Iraq and that we want to thank their families. Oscar was home on medical leave because he had been injured during his tour in Iraq so this special weekend was a welcome treat.
